North Idaho College is committed to teaching excellence, continuous improvement, and student success. The eLearning team supports this commitment by partnering with faculty to enhance teaching and learning through instructional design, educational technology, accessibility, and evidence-based teaching practices.

Whether you’re developing a new course, revising existing content, or exploring new teaching strategies, the eLearning team provides consultation, training, and instructional support throughout the course development and teaching process. Our goal is to provide practical, sustainable solutions that help faculty create engaging, accessible, and meaningful learning experiences for students.

Faculty Support

The eLearning team provides support in the following areas:

• Course Design– Assistance with everything from formatting content and troubleshooting course issues to building a complete course.
• Canvas Support & Training– Individual or small-group training sessions tailored to your needs.
• Educational Technology Support– Assistance with instructional technologies integrated with Canvas, such as Zoom, Turnitin, Panopto, Respondus LockDown Browser, and publisher tools.
• Accessibility and Universal Design– Guidance on creating accessible course materials and meeting ADA requirements, including support with tools such as YuJa Panorama.
• Teaching Strategies– Consultation on best practices for online and hybrid teaching strategies.
• Syllabus and Course Setup– Assistance creating, updating, and publishing course syllabi.
• Faculty Learning Opportunities- Training opportunities, workshops, webinars, and self-paced learning resources that support continuous improvement in teaching and learning.

Course Copies & Merges

Course Copies 

Course content may be copied from a previous Canvas course to support course preparation and revision. Reusing existing content can reduce course development time while providing opportunities to update instructional materials and activities.

 Faculty may complete course copies independently or request assistance from the eLearning team.

Merged Sections

Multiple sections of the same course (ex., PSYC-101-101, PSYCH-101-102), and sections that are cross-listed (ex., ENGL-103-100 and AIST-103-100) may be combined into a single Canvas course to simplify course management. This allows instructors teaching multiple sections of the same course to manage content, communication, and grading from one location. Faculty considering a course merge are encouraged to consult with the eLearning team to determine whether merging is appropriate for their instructional needs.

• Ensure FERPA compliance – FERPA Guidelines
• Course merges must be completed before the beginning of the academic term.
• Only empty Canvas course shells are eligible for merging.
• Merged courses cannot be separated after the merge is complete.
• Some enrollment situations may not be eligible for merging.
